Pocklington Town AFC 1st team began their Humber Premier League season with an Away trip to Hornsea Town AFC.
It wasn't surprising that the game started a bit frantically as both sides settled into the game. After a long ball over the top from Chris Saltmer, the opposition goalkeeper came charging out to clear the ball. Unfortunately for him he was under pressure from Nathan Walker and could only head the ball into the air. Walker finished acrobatically with an overhead kick, not a word usually associated with the striker. 0-1.
After the goal the game opened up again and became end to end. Both sides created chances and with the Hornsea attacking line rotating positions, the Pock back 4 and Goalkeeper Craig Coxall had to remain resolute. When Carl Brewer played the ball into the feet of Joseph Cooney, there weren't many people who would have expected what would happen next. He looked up, saw the goalkeeper off his line and lobbed him from 30 yards, at least that's how we saw it.
Half Time: 0-2
The second half started again at a frantic pace, but the wind was knocked out of the Hornsea sails early on, as Craig Hargreaves released Jake Dunham through on goal to slot home to make it 3. 0-3.
The game was now in Pock's hands. James Drewery and Tom Scrowson dealt with the physical Hornsea strikers. Luke Cranswick began to find more space as did Ryan Coulfield. Ryan gave Dunham the ball in the Pock half and he had one thing on his mind, go.for goal. He started the run from 60 yards out, glided past everyone in front of him to then shoot on goal, which the Hornsea goalkeeper saved. Fortunately Dunham's hard work paid off though as he was able to finish the rebound. 0-4
The game was pretty much open now and done as a contest. The fresh legs of Alex Nattrass, Cameron Cree and Josh Watkinson allowed Pock to see out the game and claim the 3 points and claim a rare clean sheet away from home.
Chrysalis Man Of The Match: there were a few candidates but Jake Dunham edged it with his hand work defensively and the added bonus of 2 goals.
