Meet The Champions - Nathan Walker

From one end of the pitch, to the other, the big man, Nathan Walker

Having played at various levels of football, where does your time at the club and this season's title win rank ?

Right at the very top!! Pock is my home town and I’ve played for the club on and off since I was 10 or 11. I have come runner up in the Humber league twice and I'm delighted we’ve got the job done this year. Joe and Wokko managed me the last time we narrowly missed out so I was desperate to do it for them. The dressing room has been incredible this season, some of the older lads I’ve known for over 15 years so to do it with this group and in the fashion we did puts it above anything else I’ve done in football at any level. APAW.

Having scored a number of goals this season, which is your favourite and why?

My favourite goal would have to be the 35/40 yard lob away at Reckitts. The keeper was off his line and I went for it, I got a good clean contact and I knew it was in as soon as I hit it. It was a late winner as well which is always a bonus, limbs.

After suffering the heartbreak of picking up an injury, the week before the crucial game against Hedon, how important was it for you to be there on Saturday and what do you feel you still added to the side?

I’m afraid at my age and with my body there is always the risk i'll pick something up. I didn’t think I was quick enough to pull my hammys anymore but there you go, that was cruel. I’d had my eye on the fixture for ages as I had a feeling a lot might be riding on that game. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world though. I just tried to be a presence in the dressing room to help the lads. I made sure I slapped them all on the bottom to help encourage them. And then I paced up and down the sidelines shouting in Muzza’s ear for 90 minutes. We won 4-0 and sealed the deal so I think it worked.

At what moment did you feel like the title was achievable?

I actually felt like we had a chance after the first game. We battered Hornsea 4-0 away, who are always tough opponents. After that game I missed the start of the season with a fracture in my knee so I probably started to believe it would actually happen after we’d played both Scullys and Hedon. I felt we were the better team in both games despite only drawing both.

What are your plans/targets for next season?

Next season the plan is to go back to back champions, remain injury free and bang loads of goals in. Realistically only 2 out those 3 are achievable because I will definitely be injured at some point.
